Lancaster's Historic Bed & Breakfast
The French Country Manor offers a unique blend of history and authenticity. From its antiques and period furnishings to the use of reclaimed building materials, every detail reflects the character of its past. The estate features gardens, wooded paths, bridges, a historic barn, and an old mill stream with a waterfall — all part of the property’s story.
A Historic 1800s Country Mansion
The French Country Manor is located on a secluded 40 acre estate in one of the most beautiful regions of Southern Lancaster County, part of the Martic furnace in the mid-1700’s producing iron stove plates for the surrounding area. Originally built in 1776 as a 30-room iron master’s mansion, it was rebuilt in 1813 with an added mill race. The former owner built the library in 1953.
Restored with Care
In 2001, the current innkeepers embarked on a massive renovation to preserve the property’s historic charm while enhancing its comfort. The work included replacing the roof using reclaimed slate, building a second-story suite above the library, and adding an east wing.
Throughout the renovation, great care was taken to use locally sourced materials, including reclaimed wood, stone, and slate, staying true to the region’s heritage.
Grounds & Natural Beauty
The property’s 40-acre estate has also been revitalized with thoughtfully designed gardens, extensive pathways, and landscape lighting to highlight the natural beauty. Guests are invited to explore the outdoor spaces, from the historic bridges to the old mill stream.
